'Chandramukhī,' meaning ‘moon-faced one,' is a poem I composed in a Braj-inspired register, rendered here in the Shahmukhi script. A crescent-shaped comb moves through a tangle of Shahmukhi-like letters, with only a few real words scattered within, until the composition resolves into the actual poem:

چاند جھلمل بستر پہن
جگت جل پٹھائ۔
ہم چاندی ورک اوڈھت
پرء پاس بلائ۔

The English translation reads:

In her shimmering robes
the moon summons earth’s waters
So I decorate my body in silver leaf
And call upon my beloved
